The Hip Humanitarian is a new subscription box I found on Instagram (again, lurking). I really like the little sneak peek photo I saw of their "Free Spirit" box so I decided to give it a try. They have 3 types of boxes you can receive: the Free Spirit, the Minimalist, and Hollywood. I figured Free Spirit would be most like the items I was looking to receive and I really liked one of the items I had seen included. I signed up for the Hip Club, meaning you get notified each month what the theme is and you can choose whether you want to receive that box or not - no automatic billing, which I love! It's a bit pricy for my standards so I think this will be perfect. | |
Which actually makes me like it even more! It's unique and I absolutely love the design of it. Especially the turquoise with the brass chain - they go really well together. This is exactly the type of stuff I was hoping I'd get in this kind of box. Little Pieces of Hope also donates a portion of their sales to a new charity every couple months. This one went towards Whole Planet Foundation. | This was the item I had seen on Instagram that I had to have! I honestly had no idea how to wear this until I looked it up on her Etsy shop. It's made to be worn like this: |

This is an item I'm not too crazy about. I'm not sure what it is but subscription boxes are all about paper straws lately. Maybe it's just me but I don't actually use straws....ever? Although, I can appreciate the fact that these are all made from non-toxic, compostable and renewable materials. I'm sure they'll get used either way. There are 5 straws and 10 party sticks. |
I can't really give a good value estimate on these because they're just samples - but I can never have enough argan oil! My hair and skin are in desperate need of some TLC - so I've got a bottle of argan oil in my shower and now I've got some for my face too! I'm sure these will be used up pretty fast but I can't imagine I'll buy a $36.00 bottle of it when these run out. A percentage of the profits from their sales benefit The Atlas Foundation as well! |
Each box is $40.00 if you buy that alone - just a one time try. If you join the Hip Club, each box is $35.00 plus a very small shipping cost (mine was only $2.86). But again, each month you get to choose whether you're billed and will receive the box or not. There are also 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions that you pay upfront. That being said - so far, I don't think this is really a box with a lot of retail value, since I paid $37.86 and did not receive that amount in products, but I really like what they're going for. I like that the products are all ethically made and donate to charities so I hope the lack of value=cost won't become too much of an issue for me.
