I only recently found Comic Bento and I'm really glad I did. I also really got into comic books within the last year or so, so this is the perfect way to add to and round out your comic book collection each month - without spending a fortune, which we tend to do every visit to the local comic book store. Each month, they pick a theme and send you 4-5 graphic novels based around that theme. October's theme was Horror, but I decided to opt out of that one. This review is of the box they send to new affiliates when they sign up for the affiliate program. They piece together a sampler box containing comics from several different themes around the time you sign up. |
From the Horror box comes this hardcover graphic novel about Edison Steelhead, a boy who is deformed at birth and relates his surroundings in the only way he knows how - by capturing them in his sketchbook. That description is pretty tame compared to the actual story. This is probably one of the most disturbing stories I've ever read - and there are very few words. It is very interesting however, and kept me flipping pages until I got to the end of the story. I had to see how it ended. |
This story sounds really awesome - other worlds without gravity trying to survive by creating their own suns! Humans live in a giant balloon three thousand miles in diameter! My kind of Sci-Fi! | From the Sci-Fi box (August), comes the first in the Virga series, Sun of Suns. In Virga, up is down as Hayden Griffin tries to avenge his parents' death at the hands of a neighboring fighting force. I'm actually really glad I ended up with a comic book from the Sci-Fi box because I had only found out about this subscription at the end of August and I could only get September's box (which was also awesome). I'm glad I didn't completely miss out! |
Also from the Horror box comes the story of Jack Boniface as Shadowman, about to become the only thing that stands between New Orleans and an army of unspeakable monstrosities from beyond the night. This is Volume 1 and includes the first 4 issues of the series. The story looks really intriguing and I think it'll be a really good read! |
I was actually kind of bummed to see this in the box because I already received this in the Fantasy box in September. I hope not a lot of people received duplicates in their affiliate boxes but I suppose that's pretty hard to keep track of when the boxes are probably random anyway - it's unlikely that they keep a list of who gets which books from each theme. So I can definitely see this happening, but it's okay! | In the 3rd century, Marcus Malleoulus must fight his way back from banishment, determined to survive until revenge is his! |
This is a teaser book from November's Laughter box! I'm happy to receive this because I haven't reactivated my subscription yet since cancelling before Horror. I am excited to see what else is included in the Laughter theme but I won't be receiving the box, unfortunately. | Follow the formative adventures of Rayne Summers in this completely redesigned throwback to the earliest days of Least I Could Do! This is the black and white collection too! I like the look of it. |
