I had a bit of a problem getting December's Nerd Block - for some reason it never showed up but my tracking said it was delivered. I contacted them and was refunded, but I did receive January's block! I was actually more excited for January's anyway because it was the first of their official themes - A Galaxy Far, Far Away! I knew it was going to be a good one so I'm glad I actually got it! This one showed up in a timely manner, I've just been a little behind on reviews because of transitioning to a brand new laptop, finally! |
Universe: Middle Earth These are for all your adventures in Middle Earth to slip through unnoticed around all those elves, hobbits, dwarves and orcs. These are exclusive to Nerd Block so I estimated the value. They're not terribly high quality, but they're really just for fun, so I don't expect much. I just put them on and they do look kinda cool. My roommate said they're "ridiculously awesome" so that's a plus! They're not too uncomfortable and they stay on pretty well too! |
Universe: Earth, unfortunately "Grumpy Cat just wants to be left alone in a different universe, away from all of you. But unfortunately for her, she is in this month's Nerd Block instead." I don't really like Grumpy Cat, and I don't see what all the appeal is about. I also can't believe that her owner has made millions and millions of dollars off her cat. Seems really ridiculous and says a lot about American culture - but alas, here she is. I don't know what I'm going to do with this. I might just give it away to someone else. |
Universe: Middle Earth This, I am all for! I love The Hobbit/LOTR so anything having to do with either are totally welcome with me. It looks like subscribers received either Gandalf's staff, Bilbo's Sting, or Thorin's key. I'm really glad I got Gandalf cause he's so badass. I love the look of the pen too - and I'm definitely bringing this to work! It's not very obvious in the picture, but the bookmark is holographic too - and looks AWESOME! The Noble Collection is well known for replica work, so this is really, really cool. | Universe: Planet of the Apes and Star Trek "Damn it, I'm a Nerd Block, not a damn dirty ape!" This is the first issue in a new Star Trek/Planet of the Apes comic book series. And what's more - it's a variant cover, exclusive to Nerd Block subscribers! I absolutely love exclusive cover art and it makes me want to value it more than regular retail. It looks like this issue had a lot of exclusive covers (Think Geek, and a couple incentive covers). The artwork inside is really nice too - might be a new series I could follow if it turns out to be good! |
I upped the value a bit because I could only find a book mark for $7.95 and a framed FilmCell for like $27.00 so I figured somewhere in between would be good. Plus, it's fricken awesome! | This is definitely my favorite item in the box! I think this is SUCH a good piece of the theme. This is an authentic 35mm scope film clip from the movie - and it comes with a certificate of authenticity. I'm going to have to frame this so it stands out on a white background. SO. Awesome. |
Universe: The one that causes trouble These are.. interesting, to say the least. I'm sure they're fun, but they seem like something that should be in a Nerd Block, Jr. and seems out of place in this box. There are several characters you can get and I got: Sir Dendrite of Dartmouth, Tops Cyclops, and Point Dexter. | There's also a cardboard dartboard depicting characters from the theme. |
I usually value all T-shirts at $20.00 but this also seems to be a Nerd Block exclusive design! I like it and I actually only got into Dr. Who within the last 2 years. I was so against it for so long (and I'm still against the first season or two - they're just dreadful). Just a heads-up that it's a little difficult getting the sizing right for the t-shirts. Maybe it's just me, because I really don't like "babydoll" shirts so the female sizes don't work too well with me. |
Overall, I really enjoyed this box - some items a lot, some not so much. I never expect to like everything. This box has a total value of around $55.00 and only costs $19.99 (not including shipping) - so the value is very good! I think they're doing well with themes so far. Speaking of themes, they've also announced February's theme! EXCLUSIVES! February's block will be filled almost entirely with exclusives! I have cancelled my subscription to save money - but I really think this block will be great and I can't wait to see what everyone gets! We also have some spoilers! |
